Two women, born of different worlds.
St. John’s Hospice has assigned Pauline Swanson to Deborah “DeeDee” Deneaux, a 76-year-old Creole woman in the final stages of pulmonary sarcoidosis. Pauline will gradually learn about the dying woman's sprawling life story—growing up in 1960's New Orleans, her provocative adventures in 1970's San Francisco, and her success in 1980's Chicago.
As Pauline grows closer to DeeDee and her family, she will have to confront her childhood traumas and the shame of her promiscuous college years. Meanwhile, she will try to mend the rift between DeeDee and her son, Raymond, before it is too late.
A story of survival and endurance.
